USA 18 - Canada 41, WTF, eh?

by theorangedog on Jul.12, 2009, under Speed

Canada is going to New Zealand. Congrats to them. I bet they’re enjoying a Molson right now.

Rugbyrubgy’s write up is here.

The Canadian view: Canada destroys U.S., qualifies for 2011 Rugby World Cup.

And, the US view: Face It, USA Rugby Fans: We Just Can’t Stop Choking Against Canada.

There is still hope against Uruguay.

USA Leads: Eagles 12 - Canada 6

by theorangedog on Jul.05, 2009, under Speed

Scrum.com has a good recap of the game posted here, and rugbyrugby.com has theirs here. My summary: All goals, no tries. The Eagles looked like they were struggling a bit in the first 20 minutes, but things started to click after. Really, the stats play to their favor but there were a few mistakes that can’t be made against the teams they’ll face in New Zealand.

On a related topic, ESPN is on the list. I try not to make a habit of complaining, sincerely at least, but they’re on the list.

I wasn’t going to be home for the match, so I DVR’d it. I sat down to watch, and as the first half is drawing to a close, ESPN decides that they are going to switch the coverage to ESPN 2. Evidently, this was because ESPN needed to dedicate themselves to the breaking news about McNair (terrible, btw). In any event, this meant I missed the last half of the game, where the Eagles went on to win.

On to Edmonton on July 11th where a victory in the land of maple syrup will clinch the Eagles’ spot in Pool A of the World Cup.

USA Eagles on ESPN

(Hopefully) returning to their roots, ESPN will be broadcasting the USA Eagles rugby match against Canada.

Game time is 4:00p EST/1:00p PST. If the US can beat Canada on Saturday, and again on July 11th in the land up north, they will automatically qualify for World Cup in New Zealand.
